I am a little late to the game sharing these images – oh well! This is my daughter, Audrey. for her 6th birthday in November, Audrey decided she wanted some fancy pictures taken, so here is what we did. I was so pleased with how they turned out, I decided to enter one from the set in the PPOC National Image Competition. I was thrilled when one of these images was an Award-Winning children’s portraits selection, as an accepted image, into the national competition.
These images were shot in my local High River studio, on a plain grey-paper backdrop. I was delighted to have my very good friend Heather of Obsidian Artistry come down to to Audrey’s Hair and Makeup. The shirt is a cheap lace shirt I ordered of Ebay ages ago, and the skirt was handmade by me, using black and black-sparkle tulle and thick black ribbon.
Award-Winning Children’s Portraits
Working with children this young can be difficult. Their attention spans are short, and they don’t always warm up to strangers. Add in the camera and lighting equipment, and it’s very easy for a child portrait session to start going badly.
At Karyn Lee Portrait, we really focus and take our time with the children that come through the studio. We allow sessions to evolve naturally, getting to know the children and interacting with them in a meaningful fun way. While those moments are happening, we are photographing. While we don’t rush our sessions, we do act quickly – young children have short attention spans!
If you’re considering booking a child portrait or lifestyle session, talk to us beforehand about tips and topics you can discuss with your young child to prepare them for the situation. Once you’ve arrived, simply sit back and let us handle all the work! Sometimes, a parent trying to guide their child can make them even more nervous!
